RAK Center for Statistics and Studies (RAKCSS) participated in the United Arab Emirates’ delegation that attended the 49th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC) held during 6-9 March 2018 at the UN headquarters in New York. Dr. Ibrahim Akoum, Executive Director of RAKCSS, who was a member of the delegation, stated that the annual sessions and meetings of the UNSC and UNSD are considered the main events at the international level aimed at developing the global statistical system. Participation at these sessions and deliberations is an important opportunity to keep abreast of developments in this area and benefit from other countries’ and various statistical Centers’ experiences and best practices in statistical efforts. The 49th session this year focused on progress made with respect to big data for official statistics, open data, national accounts, other social statistics, and Sustainable Development Indicators, in which the UAE has made noticeable progress.
