Economic Surveys


The results of economic surveys are one of the main tools for measuring the performance of the economy in the emirate, and one of the main indicators that serve decision makers and investors in making decisions.

The Center carries out a set of different economic surveys through which data is collected from institutions and companies operating in the emirate. Economic surveys include agricultural survey, building materials survey, machinery and equipment prices survey, construction prices survey, private education prices survey, rent prices survey, the most important economic surveys carried out by the center are as follows:​


Annual Economic Survey

The survey aims to provide high-quality economic indicators that contribute to decision-making and policymaking. The survey outputs are considered among the main pillars of calculating the gross domestic product. Therefore, the survey aims to identify the following:

  • The production value of the main activity and the secondary activities.
  • Intermediate consumption of goods and services used in production.
  • The value added and its various components.
  • Stock values of inputs and finished products.
  • Number of employees according to their classifications and their compensations, including salaries, wages, benefits in kind and cash
  • Changes in assets.

​The survey targets establishments operating in various economic activities according to the International Industrial Classification (ISIC rev.4), except for the agricultural sector, public administration, defense, organizations, and bodies outside the economic territory, and the activities of private households.

It is worth noting that the center started implementing this survey starting in 2017, and the questionnaire was designed to achieve the objectives of the survey. The questionnaire includes general data about the company, data on employees, data on capital, property rights, expenses, and revenues of the company, in addition to data on fixed assets.

Data is collected from a sample of establishments operating in various economic activities, and the sample size was 2,400 establishments in 2021 (data 2020), where the size of economic establishments was taken into account in the design of the sample so that the survey includes all establishments with 30 or more workers, while for the rest of the establishments a sample of them has been selected according to internationally adopted statistical methods, and it is expected that this survey will be implemented during the second quarter of each year.

 

 

Quarterly Economic Survey

The quarterly economic surveys carried out by the Ras Al Khaimah Center for Statistics and Studies aims to collect and provide statistical data and information about economic activities to prepare short-term indicators, in addition to identifying the seasonal impact on economic activities. It also aims to update a series of short-term economic data according to economic activity.

Quarterly economic surveys of the productive sectors target establishments operating in various economic activities according to the International Industrial Classification (ISIC rev.4), except for the agricultural sector, public administration, defense, organizations, and bodies outside the economic territory and the activities of private households.

In general, the survey sample for the year 2021 was designed to cover all economic activities in the Emirate. The sample size was 2,400 establishments. The size of the economic establishments was also considered in the design of the sample, so that the survey includes all establishments with more than 30 workers, while for the rest of the establishments a sample was selected from them according to internationally adopted statistical methods.

Foreign investment survey

The foreign investment survey is one of the yearly surveys of the center, and the importance of the survey stems from the data it provides about foreign investments in the emirate, such as:

• The volume of foreign investment of all kinds in the Emirate.

• Economic sectors and activities to which foreign investment is directed.

• Characteristics of foreign investors and the size of their investments.

Since its establishment, the Center has been keen to provide data on foreign investment, as the survey has started in 2016, and a questionnaire was designed in line with international and local requirements.  The questionnaire has three main sections, the general data section, the investors and investments data section, and the company's financial data section. The survey was designed to cover all establishments in which there is or is expected to have foreign investment, and the survey's frame was built from more than one source to ensure the comprehensiveness of the survey to cover all establishments where there is foreign investment.



The monthly economic survey to measure the impact of Corona on the emirate's economy 2020

In response to the rapid changes in the economy because of the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, the Center implemented a monthly economic survey with the aim of measuring the impact of the pandemic on the economy of the Emirate. The center began implementing this survey starting in May 2020, when data was collected for the first four months of 2020 using the Ras Al Khaimah Surveys platform, which allowed the center to collect data from companies by sending links to companies and without the need for field visits.​
